1975 Fender Precision Bass restoration

Finally, it's done!!!!!!!

Before

After

One of these days a guy came to my house with a very old bass.  It was a total mess.  It had several layers of painting (I think they were kinda house paint, or roof paint) and scratches all over.  Nothing close to a beauty instrument.  But my surprise was when I saw it was an original Fender P-Bass, and I was double surprised when I talked to the owner and told me it actually was an 1975 model (check the back plate picture and look the serial number).  So I decided to take the challenge of a total restoration.  Today (march 21, 2009) I started.  Click here to see what's going on with this project.  I hope you like it as much as I do.

Ocean guitar.

As its name says, it reminds us ocean waves. It's made of several hard woods, such as oak, cristobal, cenizaro, etc, which produces a bright and deep sound, and of course, a long sustain. It's equiped with magnetic and piezo pickups, with two switches to combine them as you want.

Simple guitars are always easier to use and I always focus on that way. My guitars use one volume, one tone and one switch to toggle between the two pickups. In this case, this guitar has two volumes, one for magnetic and one for piezo pickups.

It is well balanced and comfortable for playing almost in any way you want.

It's been almost three years of research, building, disassembling and rebuilding different bodies and necks, changing little details to have what I have today. Tens of necks, tens of bodies thrown away just to make sure the final design is the best.

My goal is not to copy anyone's design; that means be original 100%, keeping all the time the functionality of a great guitar but with a new and radical design.

That's how the ocean guitar is what it is today.
